FOOD & WATER WATCHMEN

This song is our perspective as the little guy up against a Goliath corporation. We have limited resources, they don’t. Knowing that, they have given no care to do the right thing. We remember who won the first David v. Goliath fight by the favor of God.
“Standing Against Goliath”is a landowners’ account of a two year journey after the REX pipeline gas compressor was built 951 feet from their family of 9's front door, followed by converting the originally natural gas transporting Trailblazer Pipeline in their pasture, only 800 feet from their door, to the asphyxiant CO2. No resolution after nearly 2 years and the case has been filed. Hume, Brady et al v. Tallgrass Energy et al, was filed in Logan County District Court under case number 2026CV0300
LYRICS
[Intro: harmonica]
[Verse 1]
Out across the prairie where the winter wheat grows green, They're tearing through the fencelines with a pipe you've never seen. They say they'll bury carbon, lock it deep beneath the ground, But the water underneath us is the only well around.
[Chorus]
Oh, we're the watchmen on the wall, and we've got open eyes, We see what you are doing and we won't let it slide. We'll expose it every day. You could clean up your ways, But you only run this scam 'cause of how good it pays.
[Verse 2]
They paint it up in green and they sell it as a cure, Send the bill to the taxpayer, the farmer, and the poor. Nearly every ton they capture gets pumped back down for oil, While they're drilling up more profit, they are poisoning the soil.
[Chorus]
Oh, we're the watchmen on the wall, and we've got open eyes, We see what you are doing and we won't let it slide. We'll expose it every day. You could clean up your ways, But you only run this scam 'cause of how good it pays.
[Verse 3: softer]
Down in Satartia, Mississippi, on a winter night, A pipeline burst wide open and the fog put out the light. Cars went dead on the highway and the air turned thin and cold, Nearly fifty in the hospital, and nobody had been told.
[Verse 4]
They swear it stays in the bedrock, locked away for good, But it seeps up through the old wells, just like we knew it would, Into the springs and aquifer our cattle and children drink, And the ground's begun to tremble. It's later than you think.
[Chorus]
Oh, we're the watchmen on the wall, and we've got open eyes, We see what you are doing and we won't let it slide. We'll expose it every day. You could clean up your ways, But you only run this scam 'cause of how good it pays.
[Bridge: building]
Now the industries are eyeing every acre of American land, We don't need a buried promise from a pipeline company's hand. Keep the fields for growing bread and the rivers running clean, That's the future we are fighting for, the truest kind of green.
[Final Chorus: full band, group vocals]
Oh, we're the Food and Water Watchmen, and we've got open eyes, We see what you are doing and we won't let it slide. We'll expose it every day. You could clean up your ways, But you only run this scam 'cause of how good it pays.
[Outro: harmonica, fade]
